Name: Tom Harnett

Year/Major: I’m going into my senior year as an English Writing major on a Non Fiction track. And I threw a film minor on there too.

Where are you from?

I’m from Havertown, PA. It’s one of the outside of Philly places that no one here has ever heard of..

What do you do for Pitt Tonight?

I’m writer. I write on any part of the show we need help on, monologue, desk piece, bits, interview questions. I’m also now a Writing-Production liaison. I know, fancy, right? I don’t know exactly what liaison means, but I think it’s French and that’s good enough for me to proudly liaise with passion. Basically I just help a lot on pre-filmed videos.

Who is your favorite late night personality? Why?

I love Conan O’Brien and Stephen Colbert so much but right now I’d say Conan. I love Conan because I think he’s the funniest on the fly out of any of the late night hosts. He’s also got the most Irish name ever, so i like that about him too.

What is the funniest thing you have seen on Pitt's campus?

This one time I saw a family, probably looking at Pitt for one of their kids, and they were standing by the Posvar walkway just kind of staring at that Clunky yellow arch thing. Have you ever seen 2001 a Space Odyssey? They we’re looking at it like the way those chimpanzees in the beginning of the movie looked at that huge slab thing. And I walked by them, the dads so confused, he just goes, “so… what is it?” and I was just like, “It’s okay man, I don’t think anyone really knows.” But if anyone can explain that thing to me, that’d be nice.

What are your hopes for Pitt Tonight?

I hope Pitt Tonight becomes a Pitt staple and a group here for a long time! You could have guessed that though. Who’s gonna do this survey and be like, “Ehhhh I’m hoping it falls apart in a few years.”

Market or Perch? I’ve never been to the Perch, so Market by default.
